From ancient graveyards we extracted life
Barrel upon barrel of primordial soup of a new and incendiary kind

We conjured up an eternal summer from a force stronger than a thousand slaves
And we danced and we laughed in the light from the graveyards

On former pastures was thousand-fold factories that catered for a swifter life
Vast fields of resilient crops and effective remedies for the plagues of the new silk roads

But what grows in exhausted soil and plastic ashes?

As we marched under a scorching artificial sun,
guided and blinded by a seemingly eternal daylight,
we chased the night away, REJOICE and JUBILEE!
But who would be there to greet the dawn,
when the sun rose, 'next morning?

Then came the Maxim Gun with jade and spice for everyone.
Tiger tanks patrolled both sides, so that everyone felt safe

The lungs of creation struggled for breath in invisible gas and smoke
As trolley upon trolley filled with loot made its way up north

In the warmth we multiplied and reveled in our merchandise

As she told the story I could almost see
the faces of the once-people that came before me
They were so colourful and odd; so curious and sad,
but proud, and they sang:

Through conjured up deserts and the nuclear snow

The once thundering asphalt rivers are now silent
A strange noise cuts through the night, a dying fire
The iron trail still plods away, outside palaces past

Blackbraid quickly followed up their 2022 debut in 2023 with more native folk infused furious black metal. This is by no means a sophomore slump as it is equally excellent, methodical, melodical, and approachable as the first record. 9/10 RJ

Late 90's BM worship, but it's also a lil more than that. This album takes the best elements from the scene it's inspired by and mostly avoids the worst of it; the song-writing is well-written, it's performed with passion and fun, and the production is raw but isn't lo-fi. (i.e. it doesn't obfuscate and/or suckass). Tl;dr It's safe but high quality BM. Recommended. Rabbit
